Abiriba community celebrates 2014 Women's Day;honour distinguished daughters

It was a display of the rich cultural heritage of the Abiriba people as the community observed its 2014 Women's day on Tuesday November 25th.
The celebration was part of activities marking the 14th coronation anniversary of HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu,IV,the Enachioken of Abiriba kingdom.


The Akahaba Stadium,Omaghuzo,Amaeke Abiriba,venue of the event was filled to capacity,as sons and daughters of the community trooped out en masse to support and celebrate their own.
The event which started with the arrival of the Enachokien,traditional rulers and the Chiefs in council,had all the traditional rulers of Ohafia Local Government,ably represented.
As tradition demands,the event was set rolling with the presentation and breaking of kolanut as a sign of welcome to visitors.


Ezeogo Anagha Ezikpe,Chairman of the day,in his opening remark noted that women should assume a position that encourages their children to go to school,while enumerating some of the achievements of the Abiriba people to include the development of cities where they are found.
In his homily,the guest speaker,Pastor Joseph Elezuo,who spoke on "the making of a role model mother" described women as the highest and wonderful creation of God. He said women serve in four capacities which includes daughters, sisters,wives, and mothers.Adding that these makes man completely whole as no man can boost of not having any of these attributes in his life.


Pastor Elezuo further stressed that motherhood is an assignment and too valuable to ignore. He said the making of every great destiny is decided by a mother,insisting that becoming a role model mother,not just a mother is what every woman should strive for.
Some of the attributes of a role model mother according to Elezuo include -not just a bearer but a rearer,committed to the care and raising of everyone around her neighbourhood,contribution to the elegance of her world,a partner not a slave, among others.
He however enjoined women to strive to be educated, empowered and grow mentally.


Chairman of the Organising committee,Prof. Anya O Anya in his speech entitled"celebrating our women as the leaders for a new renaissance in Abiriba and the nation" saluted the prowess of women in making outstanding contributions in different facets of life. He emphasized that the honouring and celebration of Abiriba women is geared towards pointing the way to the future as well as showcasing the indispensable role of women especially in leadership positions. Prof. Anya maintained that if the womenfolk are ignored in the society,the society will not function effectively. He also congratulated the Enachioken of Abiriba kingdom,HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu,IV, for his outstanding roles in encouraging and promoting the Abiriba women.


The highpoint of the ceremony was the cutting of the anniversary cake.
The award recipients include - Elder Mrs. Inyang O Anya,Elder Mrs. Kalaria A Obasi, Elder Mrs. Nena Ikodiya Uche,Prof. Okpete R Kanu,Mrs. Nkechi Obi,Prof. Ndi Okereke Onyiuke,Hon.Justice Onyekachi A Otisi,Commodore Uche Enyindiya Onuma,Ureh Nnenna Lekwauwa,Ukwuori Ndukwe Kalu,and Lynda Oyeni Ugboaja.
The Enachioken of Abiriba Kingdom,HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu,IV, was full of smiles as he expressed gratitude to God for a successful outing,while enjoining women to remain steadfast,dedicated and stand out as role models in every area of their lives to enhance a peaceful and complete society.


The Abiriba Women's day is a yearly event of the community to portray the roles of women in societal development as well as encourage mothers to be role models to their children.
